Polar Bears
While learning about texture, students participated in a science experiment... in Art! While using watercolors in art 2nd grade learned about habitat and traits of polar bears. First students are asked to paint a purple sky and while the paint was still wet, students were asked to use salt and sprinkle it onto of the purple sky to create snowflakes. Next, students paint a blue ground for ice and while using cling wrap students trapped the remaining water and blue paint underneath and let their composition dry overnight. Day two students trace a polar bear template and fill using white tempera paint. Lastly student were asked to include details by adding snowflakes and a moonlit sky.
* Cling wrap about 200 ft will last for about 100 kids
*Make sure you have tubs for shaking salt on paper
*Make sure students add salt and cling wrap when their paper is still fairly moist for the best results
