Mandala
After learning about the color wheel the 4th grade class learned about the tint and shade of color through creating a multicultural mandala inspired by Tibetan monks. Students learned about the history and purpose of mandalas while also learning that most mandalas are based on a radial symmetric axis and involve an immense amount of detail and of course color!
Using 12x12 sheets of paper students folded their paper and using pencil drew 5-6 different types of lines to create their blueprint on one slice of their paper . Next students traveled to the windows of the cafeteria (they serve as a huge light box for 20+ kids) and completed tracing their line design on each slice until their paper was complete.
Paint colors were chosen based on the students color of their table and students were asked to paint the same shapes the same colors (for radial symmetry) and trying to make sure they alternate their colors to show the tint and shade of their colors.
